We’re only as experienced as our people and at Lesterdale our people have more than 25 years’ experience in the manufacture of embroidery backings and stabilisers.
Our expertise and knowledge within embroidery has helped us to create a portfolio of performance materials that can be tailored to your designs or application.
How are technical fabrics
used in embroidery?
Throughout the embroidery process a base fabric is perforated a number of times in a concentrated area and the stitching is left to retain the integrity of the base fabric. This can result in the fabric or garment becoming misshaped or create weak areas in the fabrics structure. Embroidery backing is used to stabilise and support a base fabric during stitching. Different designs have different stabilisation requirements as needle density and stitch volume changes with the type of design. Blocks of stitching where needle density is high demands a heavy stabiliser in contrast to an outline or sketch design, which requires a lightweight stabiliser.
All Lesterdale stabilisers conform to Oeko-Tex level 2, this means they’re compliant for use in textiles used close to the skin. Selecting the right backing is essential for product quality, comfort and protecting your machinery. Lesterdale can offer expert advice and help you choose from three types of embroidery stabiliser:
- Tear Away
- Cut Away
- Water soluble
All of our backingss are available in white or charcoal with weights ranging from 22g – 120g, they can be supplied fusible or non-fusible with softer profiles for that extra comfort.
The modern format is to produce embroidery backings in Pre-cut pieces in order to reduce wastage in both time and fabric, with sizes custom manufactured to fit your hoop size. We can also offer the more traditional roll format in a wide variety of widths, ranging from 200mm to 2000mm and in lengths of 50 metres up to 2,000 metres. Products are available labelled and packaged in cartons or Polythene wrapped, with your own logos and part numbers to suit.
Behind every major brand, club or logo is a performance stabiliser. Ours are supplied to a whole host of manufacturers and retailers who produce products for a number of different industries and applications including:
- Jackets and Gowns
