The existing paper products changed in appearance throughout application and after drying making it difficult to produce the desired designs. The client had tried to use adhesive sprays and coatings to preserve the wetted image and design for longer with little success.

We took the time to gain an understanding of the application and the following requirements were established:

  • Stable throughout soaking
  • Maintain shape during drying
  • Easy to paint with good colour transfer
  • Minimal distortion
  • Easy to preserve in hot or humid conditions
  • Supplied in sheets 1100mm x 800mm

It was clear that the paper product was unstable during processing and throughout the drying process because it was absorbent, causing the shape, colour and appearance to change throughout the drying process. The application required a polyester based fabric with low absorbency to maintain a uniform structure in both wet & dry states.

Lesterdale prepared prototypes in different weights and finishes for client review.

  • Polyester fibre blend
  • Easy to tear
  • Uniform and stable
  • Controls liquid uptake and retention
  • Soft and conformable
  • Wet & dry integrity

Lesterdale seemed an ideal supplier with a portfolio of technical fabrics available
in modest quantities, pre-cut to practical sizes or shapes. We were impressed by their
willingness to listen to our requirements and tailor a product for such a specialist
application. The college would like to thank Lesterdale for their commitment to a
quality product and look forward to working with them in the future.
